Fiscal Responsibility

Balanced budget

From Wikipedia,

balanced budget (particularly that of a government) is a budget in which revenues are equal to expenditures. Thus, neither a budget deficit nor a budget surplus exists (the accounts "balance"). More generally, it is a budget that has no budget deficit, but could possibly have a budget surplus.

My Republican opponent Mr. Sizemore’s campaign website says he has “worked to keep the budget balanced, and build up cash reserves”.  I am sorry Mr. Sizemore, but that is just not a true statement.  I am in the same budget meetings he is.  The county’s budget is posted on their website for you to read and see for yourself.  The “Truth” is Mr. Sizemore hasn’t had a balanced budget for many years.  He has overspent year over year draining our counties reserve funds.  Look it up and see for yourself.  You will see the truth with your own eyes. We should never be voting for a budget that isn’t balanced.

He was in the red $7,619,709 in 2019, and in the red $6,142,482 projected for 2020. That's Millions off each year, so not even close to balanced.

I am not a fan of raising taxes, charging on credit, or wasting money in my business or personal life, and I don't plan to oversee the counties/peoples money any differently.

I believe to be truly free you need to be debt free.  That you need to work hard, and live within your means.  That living on credit is killing most American families and local governments while making the banks rich off interest. I also believe you need to put money into savings for a rainy day.

I believe government should operate the same way, and I hope to do just that for Klickitat County.  I want to make sure you and I are getting the best return on our investment as taxpayers.  That’s why I am committed to scrutinizing the county budget and listening to citizens like you to identify ways we could save money and spend our dollars more efficiently while not spending our way into debt.  I have already seen a few areas of the budget with excess spending that needs addressed and the money used elsewhere to help our citizens.

It won't be easy fixing my opponents multi million dollar budget deficits that are draining our reserve funds dry.  But I truly believe that if we once again institute fiscally conservative principals we can get back to a financially healthy place for our people.
